Connections

Through the "HandsOn Connect" online searchable database, Volunteer Southern Arizona provides volunteer recruitment and referral services for over 250 community organizations and maintains an extensive list of current volunteer opportunities with local nonprofits, goverment agencies, schools, grassroots and neighborhood associations, and medical facilities. Volunteer opportunities include those in ongoing direct service, single day projects, pro-bono and skill-based assignments, and leadership and board positions. Search our database

Disaster Preparedness

Volunteer Southern Arizona serves as the central point of contact with the Pima County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security for volunteer mobilization and management during the preparedness, response and recovery phases of a disaster. Volunteer Southern Arizona convenes the Southern Arizona Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD). This group of nonprofit organizations acts as a community forum to exchange information, coordinate activities and maximize the resources available to support the community in a crisis. Greater Tucson Youth Leadership

GTYL is open to all middle and high school students. The program focuses training sessions on different issues, such as education or the environment, as a way to inform, educate, influence and create new leaders. Graduates receive credits from Pima Community College and are offered the opportunity to be placed on nonprofit boards and committees, or community commissions. Learn more...

YouthNOW! Collaboration & Youth Volunteer Corps

This award-winning program targets 11-18 year-olds who are interested in significant volunteer work in a team-based environment. The program's goals are to ensure positive and healthy development of youth and increase the number of high-risk youth involved in positive activities. Young people are engaged in challenging, rewarding and educational projects that promote greater understanding and appreciation for the diversity of the community, serve the unmet needs of the community and promote a lifetime commitment to service. Service projects take place after school, on weekends and during the summer. The program was the winner of the 2007 National Innovation in Youth Programming Award presented by Home Depot. AmeriCorps & AmeriCorps *VISTA

AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engage thousands of people each year in intensive service meeting critical needs in education, public safety, homeland security, health and the environment. Volunteer Southern Arizona's AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps*VISTA members support and serve youth development programs throughout Tucson and Pima County and work to build the capacity of nonprofit and public agencies through volunteer management, outreach, and fund development.
